The Ganale or Ganale Doria ( Amharic ገናሌ Gänale or Genale, also Ganaalee, Genaalee ) is one of the largest rivers in southeastern Ethiopia. He joins on the border with southern Somalia with the Dawa to Jubba.

The Italian explorer Vittorio Bottego added in honor of the Marquis Giacomo Doria, President of the Reale Società Geografica, the addition Doria, which is also written as Dorya or Doriya.

The Ganale combines the two sources Ganale Guddo and Ganale Gambello, both in the east of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (formerly in the province of Sidamo ) originate on the mountain Gurumba, where the Shabelle begins. Until the reorganization of the administrative structure of Ethiopia in 1991, the river formed the boundary between the provinces of Sidamo and Bale in the south to the north; today it is mostly in the Oromia region and flows through to his last section along the Somali border, the Somali region.

The river has cut deep into the plateau, which exist in the upper reaches of Precambrian igneous and further downstream of Mesozoic sedimentary layers. The canyons are interrupted by several waterfalls, of which the Baratieri and the Del Verme Falls are the most important. From the north lead numerous tributaries from the precipitation-rich mountains of Bale in the Genale, including the Ganale Dida, Welmel, Wabi Mana / Mena and finally north of Doolow the Wabi Gestro ( Wayb ). According to the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia the Ganale has a length of 858 km, including 480 km in Ethiopia and 378 km are in Somalia (which includes the Jubba with ).

From October 1935 to January 1936 fought on the banks of Ganale Ethiopian troops against Italian troops under Rodolfo Graziani, who penetrated to Doolow against Negele Boran after her attack ( " Battle of the Ganale Doria ").
