Gang Green

Gang Green is a hardcore band from Boston, which was founded in 1982 and has also influences the skate punk.

History

Gang Green did not fit into the ( at times militant ) Straight- Edge climate, which has been dominated in Boston mainly by bands such as SS Decontrol with her skate, alcohol and fun attitude. Just a few months after the foundation and some live performances, the band got an offer demos for the legendary "This Is Boston, Not LA " record sampler. Despite their small instrument experience seven songs were recorded in no time. These songs are even today, after more than 20 years, a prime example of early HC-Punk. In 1983, the then trio disbanded for the first time. Frontman Chris Doherty joined the Jerry 's Kids, which published a true classic and a milestone with their debut album " Is This My World". Later he moved to Stranglehold and then to the ska band The Cheapskates (a precursor of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones ).

1984 gear scuffled Green together again, with drummer Jerry 's Kids Brian Betzger and Stilphen brothers Chuck (guitar) and Glen (bass) and recorded the album "Sold Out" on which the first release on a major HC Punk label, namely Taang! Records was. The Stilphen brothers left the band again to form the band Mallet Head. A short time also played the guitar player Tony Nichols in the band. The second reunion took place with a new cast in 1987 (Fritz Erickson on guitar, Joe Gittleman on bass ), the comeback album " You Got It " was a huge success.

Gittlemen left the band after the "Older ... Budweiser " LP ( he went to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones ) and was replaced by DRI bassist Josh cardboard. After a final farewell tour in November / December 1991, Gang Green broke up again. Doherty and Betzger formed the band Klover, the Mercury published in 1995 an album.

Soon after, Gang Green was reformed again, this time with drummer Walter Gustafson (ex - outlets), guitarist Bob Cenci (ex - Jerry's Kids), bassist Matt Sandonato (The Chubs ). This formation took "Another Case of Brewtality " for Taang! Records on in 1997. An EP, " Back and Gacked ", followed in 1998.

Although since no album was released with new material, the band is still active. Gang Green was instrumental in the late 1980s the success of the so-called crossover shaft together with bands like DRI, Corrosion of Conformity and Suicidal Tendencies. According to band website and a conversation with Chris, there should be a new album in summer 2007, but not what it was.
