Gang of Eight (intelligence)
The Gang of Eight ( dt gang of eight ) is a colloquial term for the eight members of the U.S. Congress, which must be informed by the U.S. President on CIA activities and findings. They each consist of the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader of the Senate and the House of Representatives and the chairmen and deputy chairmen of the intelligence committees of the Senate and House of Representatives.
The information duty of the executive over the Geheimdienstausschschüssen was first regulated by the Hughes - Ryan Amendment of 1974, which prescribed the two intelligence committees informed. This was later replaced by the Intelligence Oversight Act of 1980, which the President allows the reporting requirement in the individual case to the transition restrict of Eight.
