Gangway connection

The car transitional designated for railway passenger cars, the transition possibility between two cars. In previous years, no car crossings were provided, since no passage was through the cars available through the compartment coaches originally used, but each compartment had a separate door to the outside.

With the development of fast cars side-corridor also transition possibilities between the cars were created. To this end, in addition to the open transitions and closed crossings were built. These were first performed mostly as a bellows - transition in newer cars for the most part as a rubber bead junction. The rubber bead transitions are standardized according to UIC 561, so that internationally used cars can be coupled to each other easily.

Form-fit car crossing the InterCityExperimental

Common to all types is a transitional bridge that consists of one hinged and sliding plate at each end of the car. The panels overlap, so that even when cornering a closed tread remains. By leaf springs or similar restoring means, the sheets are moved back into the starting position.

In InterCityExperimental positive cart transitions were first installed, which should greatly reduce the air resistance of the train. In the series-built high-speed trains, the concept was not accepted.
