The Gara River ( also Guyra River) is a river in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales. He is one of the headwaters of the Macleay River.

Geography

The river below the town Llangothlin about 15 km north of Guyra and about 40 km north of Armidale on the eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range. From its source the river flows south through unpopulated land east of the cities Guyra and Armidale. South-east of Armidale enters the river in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and together with the Salisbury Water the Macleay River.

On his way to the Gara River two reservoirs, Lake Guyra flows at 1,273 m altitude and the Malpas Reservoir at 1174 m altitude.
