García Guerra

García Guerra (* 1545 in Frómista, Spain, † in Mexico City 1612) was a Spanish Dominican, who served as archbishop of Mexico and viceroy of New Spain.

At the age of 15 years Guerra joined the Dominican Order at the monastery of Valladolid and was elected there to the Prior.

In 1608, he was named King Philip III. archbishop of Mexico and viceroy of New Spain to 1611. In his short time in June 1611 to his death in February 1612 he sought above all to the fate of the native inhabitants.
