Gardyny, Ostróda County

Gardyny [ gardɨnɨ ] ( German: Great curtains ) is a town in the municipality Dąbrówno in Poland. It is located 19 km northwest of the city Nidzica ( Neidenburg ) and belongs to the powiat Ostródzki in the Warmia - Mazury.

History

The first written reference 1321. Starting in 1436 the place was called curtains, Garden 1579, then back curtains. The name derives from Old Prussian " gardinai " and means fence, corral. A church existed before the Reformation. The construction of the church was repeatedly renewed, especially in the years 1596 and 1930.

To the evangelical parish Gr. Curtains also included: Small curtains, Logdau, Oschekau, Reinhoff, Siemienau.

On 26 August 1914, here to a fight in the Battle of Tannenberg.

On January 20, 1945, the site was occupied by Soviet troops.
