Reims train station is a railway station in the French city of Reims in the Marne.

History

The present station was rebuilt in the years 1932-1935. The reconstruction is based on the plans of Ingénieurs Ridet and was conducted by the Entreprises Limousin. The previously established stations from 1860 and 1877 were destroyed during military conflicts (1870 ) or heavily damaged ( 1917). A restoration of the facade took place in 1982. In 2002 was the beginning of work on the redesign of the entrance hall of the station.

Architecture

The station hall is spanned by a series of double - reinforced concrete arches with a width of 29 m and 35 m. To facilitate cleaning, they were designed in a U shape. The total length of the hall is 105 meters. The light is ensured by fixed glass roofs in the arches. The proportion of the glass surface on the roof area is 67 %. The platforms in the hall are protected by awnings of 98 meters long and 9 meters wide.

Location

The train station in Reims lies on the northern edge of downtown. The main facade to the south is open based on two major urban areas. on the one hand to the leafy promenades toward that lead down to Porte de Mars ( as a historic site rated), on the other hand the Place Drouet d' Erlon's out one of the busiest squares in the city center, named after Jean -Baptiste Drouet d' Erlon's.

Just north of the station is ready to live in the district.

Vehicular importance

The station is served by trains of the regional express network TER Picardie and TER Champagne- Ardenne. She was also to June 2007 breakpoint of Corail Intercités from Paris to Charleville- Mézières.

Since 10 June 2007, the TGV from Paris -Est serves the high-speed line LGV Est européenne in the east of France to south-western Germany. Their breakpoint forms of Champagne-Ardenne TGV station on the territory of the municipality Bezannes, about five kilometers south of the city of Reims. Between Bezannes and the main railway station there is a shuttle service that is tailored to the TGV trains. The Gare de Reims is a major inner-city and regional bus hub of Reims (Transport Urbain de Reims ) since April 2011 and is also connected by tram to the Reims 11 km long tram network.

Transport links

The train station is from about regular daily shuttle trains and accessible to the TGV Champagne-Ardenne station. They end up on two blind tracks of the regional station. From then on there are transfer-free connections to Paris (Gare de l' Est), Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lille, Rennes and Nantes.
