The Thionville railway station is a railway station in the French town of Thionville, in Moselle. The station is mainly set up for commuting. Here all trains, including the TGV between Paris and Luxembourg as well as the Euro -cities to their destination Brussels -Basel. After the Metz railway station is the principal railway station in the north- east of Lorraine.

History

The station was opened by the Chemin de Fer de l' Est in 1854 during the construction of the railway line Metz- Thionville. The city at that time had nearly 8000 inhabitants. Thionville was for five years, first terminus, before it could be made to Luxembourg after licensing the ongoing construction. From 1906 to operate until the mid- 1930s from the station forecourt also trains on the line Diedenhofen - Mondorf Mondorf possessed in connection to the railway line Luxembourg - Remich.

The station building is located on the side opposite the center Mosel- side on the island which is formed by the channel Fossé des Remparts de Thionville, close to the D 953 Bridge, formerly N53. The train station include extensive trackage that hold a turntable with roundhouse to the southwest. There are other, numerous sidings on the railway track in the direction of Trier (northeast). Much of the track systems including the engine shed is in good structural condition and is still in use.

The building is expanded type " Donjon ", whose appearance by building a superior structural body and the height was accentuated by the elongated roof of the tower.

The elongated station building was completed in 1878, the year in which the first single-track line to Trier went into operation and had the same floor plan as the Bénestroff station south of Metz. 1898 both the second track in the direction of Trier was put into operation as well as a major expansion of the station building opened to meet the growing electricity travelers needs. During the First World War, the station was an important junction for the transport of troops to the west.

The station was extensively renovated in 2011 with EU funds.

The station is equipped with a ticket counter and a snack. The building is open daily 5:00 to 23:45 clock.
