Garigliano

The Garigliano is a river in central Italy, which flows near the city of Minturno into the Tyrrhenian Sea or the Mediterranean. It is formed by the confluence of the rivers Gari and Liri at Giunture, a district of Saint Apollinare.

In the Middle Ages, Arab Muslims had built at the mouth of an emirate, in alliance with the neighboring Duchy of Gaeta choice (see: Islam in Italy). 915 found on the banks of the Battle of Garigliano, between a Christian army and the Islamic invaders instead.

At the beginning of the 16th century, the Garigliano in 1503 between the French and Spaniards was hotly debated in the Second World War 1943-1944 between Germans and Allies ( Battle of Monte Cassino at the Gustav Line ).
