Gary Karr

Gary Karr ( born November 20, 1941 in Los Angeles, California) is an American musician.

He is regarded as one of the leading virtuoso on the double bass. He was almost exclusively active from the beginning of his musical career in 1961 as an instrumental soloist, which is a novelty in the history of the double bass. Most of his recordings, he recorded on his Amati Double Bass of 1611, one of the most famous still existing and in-use instruments of the baroque northern Italian luthier school. An example is a production of RIAS Berlin mentioned in coproduction with Schwann in 1979, awarded the " German Record Prize ". It contains works by Koussevitzky, Dragonetti and Paganini, played by Gary Karr and the Radio - Symphonie- Orchester Berlin under the direction of Uroš Lajovic.

Since he retired from the concert circuit in 2001, Karr is especially devoted to educational tasks.
