Trademarks

By his own testimony in the band " Gary Larson's Drawing School " are based most of his drawings on his studies in biology (animals in human life situations ) and the important for him Question: If you lock two creatures in a cage, who comes out alive?

Typical of Larson's work, which mostly consist only of a single image and a corresponding caption is the grotesque content, for example by animals are shown in situations where otherwise only humans are (eg the stripped snake skin from the shower curtain and the "naked " snake, which takes a shower behind it). Also, puns and sayings are integral parts of his work, about the dog, another dog proudly showing his trophy, points to a hand and says this is the hand that had fed him.

Subject of his cartoons are often

  • Scientists whose - mostly adolescent - bustle is in stark contradiction to the alleged claim of the " noble science".
  • Animals (especially cows, and insects), which are displayed in the human daily life situations.
  • Monsters and aliens who have it mostly apart some unfortunate fellows.
  • With particular preference Larson also uses snakes, privately he considers such as a pet.
  • Predators that destroy people.
  • Women wearing square glasses.
  • The stereotypical thick, american brat with freckles and baseball cap.

Typically, the interaction of single image, and partly to the literary Thumbnail sprawling subtitle is ( like it can also be found in the work of Bernd Pfarr and Eugen Egner ).
