Sports career

The " home-grown " the Wolverhampton Wanderers could not prevail in the first team, came at the then second division on August 21, 2004 against Burnley (1-1) to its single eight-minute short-term use and was established in October 2004 for three months the fourth-rate Rushden & Diamonds on loan. There he made his debut three days later against Chester City (0-1) as a substitute and met shortly thereafter in his second match against Wycombe Wanderers (1-1) into the opponent's net. Overall, he scored three goals in thirteen championship games before he returned to Wolverhampton. There he came to no other professional use and after eight games in the Reserveelf and injury problems he was released at the end of the 2004/05 season for a change of club.

The next stop of the Dubliners was from July 2005 Sheffield United. The " Blades" but he found neither his athletic luck and after only two games in the League Cup and a three-month rental period at third division Port Vale it was in direct connection from January 2006, again on loan to rivals FC Gillingham. After a month-long injury break, Mulligan worked there continuously into the first team and brought it up to the end of the season on 13 league encounters.

Despite its weakness, which lay in the relatively low goal tally to date, was especially impressed by the dedication of the striker with Ronnie Jepson the coach of the " Gills " and this decided in May 2006 to take the Irish permanently under contract. In the season 2006/ 07 Mulligan graduated 42 Official matches and received within the association behind Andrew Crofts and Mark Bentley, the award for the third best player of the year. Under Jepson's successor Mark Stimson, however, the tide turned; Mulligan lost his place and the targeted him 15 to 20 goals this season he missed with five goals clear - to make matters worse was the relegation of his club into the fourth-rate Football League Two at the end of the season 2007 /08. Despite the idea of wanting to leave the club, the parties agreed in June 2008 on a new one-year contract. After a promising start to the 2008/ 09 season with a goal in the last minute against AFC Bournemouth at 1:1, the round for the Irishman was despite the rise in the Football League One sporty very disappointing and after only a total of two goals in 31 games ended its commitment to Gillingham FC in summer 2009.

In July 2009, Mulligan signed a new one year contract with the fourth division club Northampton Town; to an extension of the commitment in addition it did not.
