Gaspard Dughet

Gaspard Poussin [ pu'sɛ ] (* 1613 in Rome, † May 25 1675 ibid; actually Gaspard Dughet ) was an Italian landscape painter.

Life

As a student and brother of Nicolas Poussin, he turned to the historical direction of landscape painting, which already Poussin Major had done. With the same noble and magnificent view Gaspard joined but a deeper, warmer color, but have suffered his paintings mostly by strong darkening.

Significant lines in the landscape, great composed trees and use of ancient ruins and the like, often associated with thunderstorms and wind storm, form the peculiarity of its landscapes, which led many artists to follow.

Work (excerpts)

In the church of San Martino a 'Monti at Rome he had performed scenes from the story of Elijah and Elisha in fresco. Larger landscape cycles in tempera and oil have from him the palaces Doria, Colonna and Corsini, individual images, the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, Palazzo Pitti at Florence, the Louvre in Paris, the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, the Museum at Madrid, the Dresden Gallery and various English private collections. We know of him eight etched landscapes.
