Gasunie

NV Nederlandse Gasunie ( Gasunie short ( Gas Union ) ) located in Groningen is a building under state-owned Dutch company in the energy sector. Gasunie operates a pipeline network for natural gas with a total length of about 15,500 kilometers, mainly in the Netherlands and Germany.

Background

Gasunie was founded in 1963 as an integrated gas trading company; in the establishment were involved in addition to the Dutch State also Royal Dutch Shell and ExxonMobil 25 percent each. With the liberalization of the Dutch gas market in 2005, the gas trading business was separated under the name Gasterra by Gasunie; under this division was acquired by the Dutch State, the shares of Shell and ExxonMobil. Since then with its infrastructure Gasunie focuses on the transport of gas.

In November 2007, Gasunie holds a nine percent stake in Nord Stream AG, which operates the gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea between Russia and Western Europe. 2008 Gasunie took over the transport network of the German company BEB gas and oil at around 3100 km gas pipelines in northern Germany. The German subsidiary operates under the name Gasunie Germany. The BBL pipeline, the first gas pipeline between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, part of the Gasunie.

Headquarters

The headquarters of the company is a 18- story high-rise in the south of Groningen. At 89 meters high it is the second tallest building in the city after the tower of the Church of St. Martin (97 meters). It was opened on 22 April 1994 by Queen Beatrix.
