Gate Theatre

The Gate Theatre ( official name: Gate Theatre, Irish Amharclann to Gheata ) is a theater in Dublin. It is located on Parnell Square, between the northern end of O'Connell Street and the Garden of Remembrance.

The Gate Theatre was founded in 1928 by Hilton Edwards and Micheál Mac Liammóir to show works by European and American authors. In the early years the Abbey Theatres Peacock - rooms were used, later moved the theater in Dublin at the Cavendish Row (number 1). The design of the building itself was designed by the architect Michael Scott. The actor Orson Welles, James Mason and Michael Gambon began their professional careers at the Gate Theatre.

Since 1983, the theater is run by the theater director Michael Colgan. In 2007, the musical Sweeney Todd the composer Stephen Sondheim was listed in the Gate Theatre.
