Gaudenz Taverna

Gaudenzdorfer Taverna ( born October 12, 1814 Chur, † October 22, 1878 in Solothurn ) was a Swiss artist and portrait painter.

Life

As the son of Gaudenzdorfer, host and guild master, and Maria née Taverna Pfranger first began studying painting at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. He then spent some time in Munich. After his return to Switzerland (stays in Chur and Zurich ) he married in 1841 Christina Walther, of Tartar in Graubünden.

From 1847 he was a teacher of drawing at the Cantonal School in Solothurn. He was one of the founders in 1850 of the Solothurn Kunstverein. He also drew cartoons for the satirical weekly post Heiri.

Taverna participated with his works in 1864 and 1865 to the rotating exhibition of the Swiss Art Association. Pictures of Taverna, often performed in Biedermeier style of painting, are located at the Kunstmuseum Solothurn and in the Grisons Art Museum in Chur.
