Gauscelin de Jean

Gauscelin de Jean ( * in Cahors; † August 3, 1348 in Avignon ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

Since 1312 Canon of the Metropolitan Chapter to Reims, he was born on December 17, 1316, Cardinal Priest of the titular church of Ss. Pietro e Marcellino. Already in 1317 he became Archdeacon of Northampton and Vice-Chancellor of the Church. He was also treasurer of Lichfield since 1317. Together with Cardinal Luca Fieschi he was papal legate in 1317 for England, Scotland and Ireland, where he was able to mediate a peace between the kingdoms. Since 1317 Präbendar of Driffield and Louth, he was Papal legate in France in 1319. Here he was able to convey a peace between France and Flanders, which were at war for 20 years.

Since December 18, 1327, Cardinal Bishop of Albano, he was in 1332 Major Penitentiary of the Catholic Church. He participated in the conclave of 1334, in part but not the conclave of 1342.
