Gavin Maxwell

Gavin Maxwell ( born July 15, 1914 in Scotland, † September 7, 1969 ) was a Scottish writer, trainer of the British intelligence Special Forces Special Operations Executive and passionate amateur naturalist and conservationist who was known especially for his work with otters. The once living in the Iraqi marshes - probably extinct - subspecies of the Indian otter Lutrogale perspicillata maxwelli was named after him. In 1960 his work Ring of Bright Water, a worldwide bestseller, the 1969 film starring Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna in the lead roles was released.
