Gävle Castle

The Gävle Castle is located south of Gavleån in the Swedish town of Gävle.

1583 was Johann III. build a so-called castle church, where a religious space represented the central part. Just like many other castles of the royal dynasty of Vasa was provided with pointed towers. The current conducted by the Belgian architect Willem Boy building was completed in 1597. After several years of decline, the castle was upgraded 1650-1660 and then used as the headquarters of the provincial administration.

After a major fire in 1727, in which the entire top floor was destroyed, it was decided at a reconstruction of the building. The architect Carl Hårleman had the castle get ready in the style of the French classicism and 1754 could again move in a provincial head.
