The Gävle Godtemplares IK is a Swedish professional ice hockey club from Gävle, who was best known as the first national champion, did not come from Stockholm.

History

The association founded in 1906 completed his first season in the highest Swedish league in the 1947/48 season. 1953/54, we reached for the first time in club history the final of the Swedish Championship, which was however lost to Djurgårdens IF. In 1957 the club won the title after all the first team, which was not located in the hockey hotbed Stockholm. Overall, the GIK played 17 years in the top division before 1963/64, descent and finally found again in the Amateur Hockey.

1975 joined the club with the Åbyggeby IK to Gavle GIK / Åbyggeby IK together in 1983 went to a gaming community with a Strömsbro IF. Until they separated in 1991, the clubs played under the name Strömsbro / Gävle HF 83 (short: SG83 ). Initially the club played under the name of Gavle HF until, in 1996, returned to the old team name.

Other sports that are now in use in their own departments, are football and floorball, the latter in the Kvalserien, the second highest domestic league.
