Gavnø

Gavnø Castle is situated on the homonymous island castle from the Rococo period in Næstved the south of the main Danish island of Zealand.

Southeast of Næstved is the island Gavnø on which the rococo palace Gavnø is. The island was already under King Valdemar II of Denmark a fortified castle. The present castle was built on the site of an earlier, in 1402 I of Margaret scale nunnery of St. Agnes of the Dominican Sisters in 1755 bis 1758. The stone bridge over the river Suså as access to the castle was built by the Baltic Sea storm surge in 1872, the the previous wooden bridge was destroyed in 1766. Here is located next to the famous tulip growing in the castle park a butterfly house, the large collection of paintings Reedtz - Thott as well as a library, but also a small fire museum.

The chapel is identical to the chapel of the former monastery, but was renovated in 1913 by a cross. The altar contains in the form of 64 coat of arms of the ancestors of the former owner Admiral Niels Trolle and his wife Helle Rosenkrantz their pedigree. Today's owner is Baron Otto Reedtz - Thott.
