Gaza Strippers

The Gaza Strippers were a rock band, founded in 1996 from Chicago.

Band History

After the Didjits had disbanded in 1994, their singer Rick Sims initially concentrated on his side project, the Lee Harvey Oswald band, and got in the Supersuckers. In 1996 he founded after he got out there again, along with bassist Darren Hooper his own new band, the Gaza Strippers with whom he wanted to sound claims to like Thin Lizzy and Queen, including two guitarists were required. Hooper and Sims had met when Hooper as concertgoers a Supersuckers show along with a friend went backstage to ask for an apology because Hooper's friend had been hit by a thrown from the stage whiskey bottle on the head.

The first committed for the position of second guitarist musician fired the band shortly after its formation, and also the first drummer left the group soon, as well as the second. They were replaced by Mike Hodgkiss and Mark Allen, what was to prove a stable lineup.

In 1997 appeared the first single from the group, and in 1999 the debut album Laced Candy, which was released by Man's Ruin Records. After the release of their third album, 1000 Watt Confessions first time the band went on a European tour, where she served as the opening act for Gluecifer.

The so far last album of the band, From the Desk of Dr Freepill, was released in 2002 on the Italian label Nicotine and was in America first not regularly available. In this work alongside several original compositions and three cover songs: Me 262 by Blue Öyster Cult, Shear Heart Attack by Queen and Yin and Yang of Love and Rockets. The number following the publication of a European tour disputed the Gaza Strippers along with the Hellacopters and the Datsuns. Frontman Sims flew to seven of these shows back to America, where his wife gave birth earlier than expected twins to the world. The remaining shows of the tour disputed the Gaza Strippers by the band members and musicians from the Datsuns and the Hellacopters Sims job is divided up.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Strippers are on ice for a few years and some of the members are otherwise busy musically: Bassist Hodgkiss joined Urge Overkill and Sims played occasionally Reunionshows with the Didjits.
