Gean House

Gean House is a mansion in the Scottish town of Alloa in Clackmannanshire unitary authority. She was a wedding gift from the textile industrialist Alexander Forrester - Paton (see also Kilncraigs Mills ) to his son. In 1972, the building was added to the Scottish lists of monuments and 1989 eventually promoted to the highest category A. Today Gean House can be rented for receptions or celebrations and offers in this context, ten hotel rooms.

Description

The building is located off the Tullibody Road in the north- west of the city, near the also listed Inglewood House. As an architect William Kerr was entrusted with the planning. He drew inspiration for his design in the Architecture Edwin Lutyens. The villa was completed in 1912. There was a large, two-story, asymmetric constructed building whose masonry consists of freestone. Situated on a farm on the northeast side, crowned the entrance is flanked by Doric columns. On the right side of the wide pediment surface rises to a distinctive, disproportionately high chimney. The disproportionate returns during any chimneys again, so that they significantly help to shape the overall picture. The south-east wing gradually grows to the height of the main building. The roofs are covered with red bricks.
