Geheyan Dam

The Geheyan Dam ( Chinese隔河 岩 水坝, Pinyin Géhéyán Shuǐbà ) is a large dam on the Xiangjiang (also Qing Jiang), a tributary of the Yangtze River in China's Hubei Province.

The shut-off is at the top of a gravity dam and in the lower part of an arch dam, similar to the Okertalsperre in Germany.

The construction lasted from 1987 to 1998. At the dam there is a ship lock chamber with the dimensions 240 mx 24 mx 4 m and a two boat lift with 42 m and 82 m height for vessels up to 300 tons.

The dam played an important role in alleviating the flooding of the Yangtze River in 1998.
