Gellio Sasceride

Gellius Sascerides (Danish Gellio Sasceride; * March 3, 1562 in Copenhagen, † November 9, 1612 ) was a Danish physician and astronomer.

Sascerides was the son of the Danish theologian Johannes Sascerides ( 1524-1595 ). From 1581 to 1587 he stayed at Tycho Brahe on the island of Ven, where he studied astronomy and then Brahe was an assistant. 1593 he received his doctorate in Basel. In 1603 he became professor of medicine in Copenhagen, in 1609 he became rector of the university. 1612 he died and was buried in Our Lady's Kirke.

The lunar crater Sasse Rides is named after him.
