Gemert

Gemert is part of the municipality of Gemert -Bakel in the southern Netherlands in the province of North Brabant with a total of 14,700 inhabitants.

From the 13th century until 1807 the village like a small town acting was in possession of the Teutonic Knights. Since it is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. 1849 Gemert was the scene of Weber uprising. The German Order in 1366 won a power struggle over Gemert. The Duke of Brabant recognized this year on their claim to the place. Around 1400 left the German Teutonic Knights in Gemert a new lock, and build a grammar school in 1587. It is noteworthy that, unlike in the surrounding area in Gemert, there was a widespread religious freedom after the Reformation.
