Active reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Genkai (Japanese玄 海 原子 力 発 电 所Genkai genshiryoku hatsudensho ) is a nuclear power plant in Japan. It is in the southwest of Japan located in the town of Genkai in Saga Prefecture of Higashimatsuura -gun. The owner is the Denryoku Kyushu ( Kyushu Electric Power). The system consists of four blocks, all of which were supplied by Mitsubishi. The reactors are cooled with seawater.

2001, the reactors have been fully refurbished 1 and 2. The control stations and other important technical equipment were renewed.

In 2010, began to transform three Japanese nuclear reactors on MOX fuel: Genkai -3, Tomari -3 and Fukushima Daiichi - third

Incidents

On June 6, 1988 water ran out of the primary circuit. One of the tubes was suffering from fatigue.

On July 17, 1998, a leak in the condenser of the reactor 1 during full power operation has been detected. Then, the performance had to be cut.

A leak was on January 20, 1998 at reactor 3 discovered during a routine test.

On 31 March 1999, there was a problem in the reactor 3 in connection with damages to the pressure tubes DERS steam generator.

After the nuclear disaster in 2011

In early 2011 the blocks 2 and 3 were shut down for routine maintenance. Following the nuclear disaster at Fukushima Kyushu Electric Power Company tried (also called Kepco ) a permit from the city of Genkai and Saga Prefecture to get, to ensure that there is no objection to a restart of the reactors. The negotiations dragged on for several months.

A meeting was organized to inform people in the district and to participate in the decision. The meeting was broadcast live on television and the Internet, viewers were invited to submit their opinions by e- mail or fax. However, it was announced that the board of Kyushu Electric had instructed its own employees to send e -mails with positive messages for the restart.

It was later admitted that not only employees of Kepco, but also of four affiliated companies were involved - a total of more than 1,500 employees. A major scandal broke out in the Japanese media because the public participation had been tampered with in this way.

On October 4, the entire system had to be shut down due to abnormalities in the cooling system.
