Genlisea aurea

Genlisea aurea

Genlisea aurea is a carnivorous plant in the genus of fish trap traps ( Genlisea ).

Besides Genlisae violacea and Genlisea Genlisea aurea margaretae was one of the three types, where Wilhelm Barthlott 1998 proved the long suspected Karnivorie the genus.

Features

Genlisea aurea is a perennial, herbaceous plant, relatively strong for a Reuse - type traps and achieved a growth rate of 10 to 30 ( rarely 9 to 55 ) centimeters. The completely under the ground, like a corkscrew tortuous traps, called Rhizophylle, reach a length up to 10.7 inches, with a more or less egg-shaped thickening and, through attraction of micro-organisms such as ciliates for the capture of prey.

The leaves are approximately fan-shaped in a thick, mucus- covered rose and have come a long, lying entirely underground petiole. You are spatulat, occasionally reversed - ovate spatulat, tapering to the base of the leaf, the tip is occasionally trimmed or notched. The leaves are 5-50 mm long and 0.5 to 2 (rarely to 4.5 ) mm wide.

The up to 55 centimeters high, hairy inflorescence axis carries four to six (rarely one to eleven) yolk - yellow to golden flowers. The stem is occupied at the base with groups of multicellular glandular hairs, rarely and sparsely with multicellular hairs nichtdrüsigen that are piling up at the top of the inflorescence axis. Along the stem are one to twelve bracts, they are busy at the edge and back with two hair types, ovate to lanceolate, usually pointed, but occasionally dull or nicked, 2.5 to 3.5 ( 1.5 to 6, 5 ) mm long and 0.5 to 1 ( 1.5 ) mm wide. The always- upright flower stems are about 5 (2 to 25) occupied millimeters long and with glandular and occasional nichtdrüsigen hair, also here you can bracts, they resemble those of the inflorescence axis, but are 2 ( 1.5 to 4 ) mm long and 1 ( 0.5 to 2.3 ) mm wide. The two bracts are hairy, 2 ( 1.2 to 3.5 ) mm long, 0.5 ( 0.3 to 1.3 ) mm wide, generally oblong, round or ovate to lanceolate, rarely linear - lanceolate, the tip may be blunt to pointed.

Dissemination

The species is found only in Brazil.

Genetics

The chromosome number is 2n = ca 52 specified. With 63.6 Mbp for Genlisea aurea type contains the second smallest known genome of all angiosperms (only undercut slightly from 63.4 Mbp for Genlisea margaretae ). Also noteworthy is the size of individual chromosomes that move with 2.1 Mbp in the orders of magnitude of bacteria.

Etymology

The epithet of the botanical name derives from the color of her golden-yellow flowers (Latin aurum = gold).
