Gennady Zyuganov

Gennady Andreyevich Zyuganov (Russian Геннадий Андреевич Зюганов, scientific transliteration Gennady Andreevič Zjuganov; born June 26, 1944 in Mymrino, Oryol Oblast ) is a Russian politician and currently Chairman of the KPRF.

Career

Zyuganov is a trained physicist. After leaving school he worked for a year as a teacher in 1962 before he enrolled at the State University of Oryol. From 1963 to 1966 he did his military service in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany and joined the reopened study in 1969 with honors. In 1966 he joined the Communist Party and was active in the Komsomol. From 1972 he worked in the party apparatus from 1974 to 1983, he was Second Secretary of the City Party Committee of Oryol. From 1983 he worked in the Department of Agitation and Propaganda of the Central Committee, he was the deputy head in 1989.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Communist Party, he was one of the founders of the new Communist Party of the Russian Federation ( KPRF ), he's since February 14, 1993 its chairman. Since 1993 he is a member of the Duma, in the presidential election in 1996 and the 2000 presidential election he was a candidate. In 1996, he reached in the first round and 32.0% in the second ballot, 40.3 %, in 2000 on the first ballot 29.2 % ( in this election, Vladimir Putin was elected in the first ballot). 2008 and 2012 he ran again for the presidency, however, remained a chance both times ( 18.5 % in 2008 and 17.7 % in 2012).

Position of the Soviet Union

On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Mikhail Gorbachev Zyuganov described this as "traitors" and " destroyer " who had inflicted with serious political errors, the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Private life and origin

The ethnic Russian Gennady Zyuganov comes from a family of teachers. His father Andrei Mikhailovich Zyuganov (1910-1990) during the Second World War artillery commander in the Red Army. After the war he was middle school teacher. His mother Marfa Petrovna (1915-2004) was an elementary school teacher.

Gennady Zyuganov is married since 1967 with Nadezhda Ivanovna Sjuganowa ( born Amelitschewa ). The marriage produced two children have emerged: son Andrei ( b. 1968 ) and daughter Tatiana ( b. 1974 ). In addition, Zyuganov has a granddaughter and seven grandsons.

In his spare time Zyuganov busy with volleyball, billiards and floriculture.

Despite his communist setting is Gennady Zyuganov avowed Russian Orthodox Christian.

In June 2012, Zyuganov survived a heart attack. According to media reports, he suffered the heart attack on 4 June 2012 during a vacation in Kislovodsk.
