Gennaro Righelli

Righelli Gennaro (born 12 December 1886 in Salerno, † January 6, 1949 in Rome ) was an Italian film director and screenwriter.

Life and work

Righelli began his career as an actor and came to the movie as a director of short films at the Vesuvio Neapolitan film. His first full-length films from 1911 were literary adaptations, historical films and melodramas, often with his partner Maria Jacobini in the lead role.

In 1923 Righelli to Germany and directed a number of films here without distinguish themselves especially. With the beginning of the sound film era, he returned to Rome. He was a typical representative of the cinema of Telefoni Bianchi. His last two films to hell with poverty and to hell with the wealth with Anna Magnani, however, are the neo-realism -oriented.
