Gentium

Gentium is a free Unicode font that is designed by Victor Gaultney.

Gentium has approximately 1,500 glyphs that represent the variants of the Latin alphabet, which are all over the world in use, and also has Greek letters that are tailored to the Latin. There is currently a regular and italic section, as well as a fat and fat - italic section. The addition of Cyrillic letters is in preparation.

Gentium is provided GentiumAlt together with the alternative character set, the flatter diacritics has than the standard version, to produce a more harmonious appearance in several letters with diacritics.

History

2003 Font won the Type Design Competition along with fourteen other writings. On 28 November 2005 it was placed under the conditions of free SIL Open Font License ( OFL ). Since April 4, 2008 versions of the Gentium Basic and Gentium Basic somewhat less graceful variant Book each in a normal, italic, bold and bold italic section are available. The addition of "Basic" refers to the range of characters, the full covering only the sections of the Basic Latin and Latin 1 Unicode plus some more characters ( but this is sufficient for the Central European languages). In November 2010, an updated version of the normal and italic section of Gentium was published under the name " Gentium Plus". The " Plus" version contains the full character set of Latin, the IPA and the Greek and Cyrillic alphabet. The fat and the fat - italic cut for Gentium Plus are in preparation. These cuts there are, however, only in the families " Basic" and " Basic Book". The project plans to include all currently available versions in the future in the version " Gentium Plus" merge, which is then also include the bold, and bold italic section. The original Gentium is then provided solely for compatibility available.
