Geoffrey Fenton
Sir Geoffrey Fenton (c. 1539; † October 19, 1608 in Dublin ) was an English translator.
Life
Fenton came from a noble family and traveled in his youth in France, Spain and Italy. In 1580, Fenton Secretary of Arthur Grey, 14th Baron Grey de Wilton ( 1536-1593 ), the Lord Deputy of Ireland, which he remained until his death.
1567 translated Fenton Matteo Bandellos novella entitled " Certaine tragicall discourses written oute of Frenche and Latin ," which were very popular during the Elizabethan era. Also translated Fenton Antonio de Guevara and Francesco Guicciardini " History of Italy " ( Storia d' Italia ).
Fenton's "A Forme of Christian pollicie " ( 1574 ) condemned the theater by means of narrow-minded religious arguments.
