Geoffrey Lofthouse, Baron Lofthouse of Pontefract

Geoffrey Lofthouse, Baron Lofthouse of Pontefract ( born December 18, 1925 in Featherstone, † November 1, 2012 ) was a British Labour Party politician.

Life

His parents were Ernest and Emma Lofthouse. At 14, he worked in the mining industry and was 29 years chairman of the local branch of the National Union of Mineworkers. He studied at the University of Leeds in Political Science and received his bachelor's degree in 1957. In 1967 he became mayor of Pontefract. In 1978 he was elected MP for the constituency of Pontefract and Castleford and remained so until 1997.

On June 11, 1997, he was elevated to a Life Peer.

He had a daughter with his wife Sarah.
