Georg Anton Rollett

Georg Anton Rollett (also: Franz Anton Rollett, born August 2, 1778 in Baden, Lower Austria, † March 19, 1842 ) was an Austrian collector, naturalist and physician.

He was grandfather of Alexander Rollett and father of Hermann Rollett

He had an extensive collection, which was built in 1867 by gifting the property of the city of Baden ( Rollett ). The collection includes, among others, a herbarium (more than 14,000 species of plants ), further archaeological, ethnographic, technological, mineralogical, botanical and zoological objects and Gall's phrenological skull and bust collection.

Life

Rollett, who came from a poor family went, as a 13 -year-old to a surgeon in teaching. In 1795 he was given the opportunity to study at the General Hospital in Vienna. In the following years he was able to take exams for surgery, obstetrics and animal pharmacology. From 1799 he practiced in Piesting. But two years later he moved to Baden, where he became known as spa doctor and also in many cases free of charge - about the Marie Hospital in Baden - ordained for the poor.
