Georg Detlev von Flemming

Georg Detlev Graf von Flemming ( born March 3 1699 Iven, † December 10, 1771 in Warsaw ), Polish Jerzy Hrabia Detloff Fleming, was since 1738 the Saxon- Polish General of Artillery, 1746-1764 Grand Treasurer of Lithuania and from 1766 Großwojewode of Pomerania.

Life

He was the son of the royal Prussian privy councilor Felix Friedrich Graf von Flemming (1661-1739) and Sophia Dorothea von Flemming (1673-1754), both from the Pomeranian Uradelsgeschlecht Flemming. He entered the Polish King August the Strong service and commanded the regiment since 1724 "Queen " in Warsaw. Successively he was married with two daughters of the Lithuanian Grand Chancellor Prince Michał Fryderyk Czartoryski.

His daughter, Countess Isabella Fortunata of Flemming, 1761 married her cousin Prince Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski and was as literary figure, art collector and dedicated patriot to one of the most popular figures of Polish history. Flemming supported the Czartoryski family in their rivalry against the magnate family Radziwill and stood against the Prime Minister Heinrich von Brühl. His brother Karl Georg Friedrich von Flemming was also a general in the Polish- Saxon service and the brother Ernst Bogislaus by Flemming Prussian Major General.

Fleming was buried in 1771 in the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw.
