Georg von Rauch (historian)

Georg Alexander Cornelius Erich ( born 13 August 1904 in Pskov, Russian Empire; † 17 October 1991 in Kiel) was a German historian of smoke.

Life

Georg von Rauch's father Cornelius of smoke served as an officer in the Czar's army. 1911 the family moved from Pskov to the estate Sagnitz to in Livonia. Rauch studied from 1922 history in Tartu (German: Dorpat ) ( member of the Corps Neobaltia ), Tübingen and Breslau, Mag.phil was. (later known as Dr. phil. recognized in Germany ) and first took a job as a teacher and educator at a boarding school of the Moravian Church in Niesky. In 1928 he became senior instructor at the Walter 's school in Tartu, 1930 at the local high school, in 1938 professor of history and church history at Luther Institute in Tartu. From 1936 to 1939 he served as Chairman of the Dorpat German Teachers Association and the Dorpat German Genealogical Society. Between 1939 and 1945, was smoke assistant and lecturer at the University of Poznan. After his habilitation in Greifswald (1941 ) and participation in the war (1941-1945, special guides and interpreters in the group III (Hearing and prey - evaluation) of the General Staff FHO ( FHO )) was smoke 1946 Lecturer, in 1953 extraordinary professor for East European History at the University of Marburg. Later, he accepted a position at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel, where he re- built the seminar for Eastern European History and Dean of the Faculty of Arts was. He retired in 1972. He was from 1973 to 1979 Chairman of the Baltic Historical Commission.

Georg von Rauch was from 1938 married to Marga Rathe Reimer, daughter of the physician Arthur Reimer from Tartu. Georg (1947-1971), the youngest of her three sons, belonged to the militant left-wing scene in Berlin.

Georg von Rauch's grave is located on the Park Cemetery in Eichhof Kronshagen.
