George 'Sonny' Goddard

George " Sonny " Goddard ( born April 28, 1924 in Port of Spain, Trinidad; † January 1988 ) was a supporter of the steelpan musical instrument and longtime president of the Steel Band Association of Trinidad and Tobago.

Goddard grew up in New Town. He was a member of Alexander 's Ragtime Band, one of the first steel bands of Trinidad. From 1957 to 1971 he was president of the Steel Band Association of Trinidad and Tobago, where he campaigned for greater acceptance of Panspieler and steel bands. Moreover, he wrote the standard work Forty Years in the steel bands 1939 to 1979.
