George Anson Starkweather (New York)

George Anson Starkweather ( born May 19, 1794 in Preston, Connecticut; † October 15, 1879 in Cooperstown, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Anson Starkweather visited community schools and graduated in 1819 from Union College in Schenectady. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Cooperstown. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1846 for the 30th Congress Starkweather in the 21st electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles Goodyear on March 4, 1847. He retired after March 3, 1847 from the Congress. Between 1853 and 1868 he worked in Milwaukee (Wisconsin ) as an attorney. He died on October 15, 1879 in Cooperstown and was then buried in the Lakewood Cemetery.
