George B. Field

George B. Field ( born October 25, 1929 in Providence ) is an American astrophysicist.

Life

Field grew up in New England, Rhode Iceland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Edgewood, Rhode Iceland on. He studied until 1951 Chemistry and Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and by 1955 Astronomy at Princeton University.

He worked from 1951 to 1952 at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, 1952-1954 at Princeton University, from 1955 to 1957 at the Harvard Society of Fellows from 1957 to 1965 again at Princeton University, from 1965 to 1972 at the California Institute of Technology, from 1972 to 1982 at Harvard University and since 1982 at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.

From 1973 to 1982 he was director of the Harvard - Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

Field works in the field of theoretical astrophysics and deals with magnetic turbulence.

Field married in 1956 Farrior Sylvia Smith. The marriage produced two children come. In 1981 he married Susan Alice Gebhardt.
