George C. Wortley

George Cornelius Wortley ( born December 8, 1926 in Syracuse, New York, † January 21, 2014 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1981 and 1989 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Cornelius Wortley attended St. Lucy's Academy in Syracuse. In 1944 he graduated from the Tully Central School in Tully. Between 1945 and 1946 he attended the Kings Point Academy. Furthermore, in the Merchant he was 1945-1946 Cadet Midshipman Navy Reserve - United States Navy Reserve. His Bachelor of Science he made in 1948 at Syracuse University. Then he was president of a publishing company. In the following years he worked as a publisher and editor of the Eagle Bulletin. He was director of the Bank of New York ( Central Region ) and the Wortley Drug Store, Inc. In 1966, he held the post of president of the New York Press Association and 1968-1973 at the National Editorial Foundation. He then sat 1977-1980 in the National Commission on Historical Publications and Records. In 1979, he was director of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce. Politically, he belongs to the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1980 for the 97th Congress Wortley was the 32nd electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James M. Hanley on 4 January 1981. In 1982 he stood as a candidate in the 27th electoral district of New York for the 98th Congress. After a successful election, he entered on January 4, 1983 to succeed Matthew F. McHugh. He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1988, he retired after January 3, 1989 from the Congress.
