Matthew F. McHugh

Matthew Francis McHugh ( born December 6, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Between 1975 and 1993 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Matthew Francis McHugh attended St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Brooklyn. 1956 graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School. His Bachelor of Science he made in 1960 at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg (Maryland) and his Juris Doctor in 1963 from Villanova Law School, Villanova (Pennsylvania). After receiving his license to practice law in 1964, he began practicing in New York City. In 1968, he was a prosecutor (city prosecutor ) in Ithaca and between 1969 and 1972 district attorney in Tompkins County. Politically, he is a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1972 and 1974 he was in New York State Democratic Committee.

In the congressional elections of 1974 for the 94th Congress McHugh was in the 27th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Howard W. Robison on January 4, 1975. He was re-elected three times in a row. In 1982 he stood as a candidate in the 28th electoral district of New York for the 98th Congress. After a successful election, he resigned on 4 January 1983 the successor of Samuel S. Stratton. He was re-elected four times in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1992, he retired after January 3, 1993 in the Congress.

He lives currently in Falls Church ( Virginia).
