George Eldon Ladd

George Eldon Ladd (* 1911, † 1982) was an American evangelical theologian.

Life

Ladd turned in 1929 to the Christian faith. He then studied for four years at Gordon College of Theology and Mission, and was subsequently ordained as a pastor of a Baptist church. He continued his studies at the Gordon Divinity School and, meantime, was pastor in various churches. He earned a degree at Boston University, and in 1949 the Ph.D. at Harvard University. In 1950 he became a lecturer at Fuller Theological Seminary. For the following years was his ambition to gain acceptance in the evangelical theology for the methods of historical- critical theology and resolve of the defense posture of Christian fundamentalism. Ladd was an influential evangelical New Testament scholar, but also as a critic of dispensationalism. His first published in 1974 and translated into French, Spanish and Chinese translated book, A Theology of the New Testament is regarded as one of the most influential books for evangelical theologians in the United States.
