George Grizzard

George Cooper Grizzard ( born April 1, 1928 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, † October 2, 2007 in Manhattan, New York) was an American film and theater actor.

Life

Grizzard, son of an accountant, grew up from the age of seven in Washington, DC on, but later returned as a student at the University of North Carolina. Here he earned his bachelor's degree in 1949. First Grizzard experiences as an actor collected in 1945 at a small theater in Surry County in the U.S. state of Virginia, when he took a supporting role in the play The Corn is Green the Welsh playwright Emlyn Williams. Under the guidance of Sanford Meisner actor Grizzard took in New York acting classes, and got 1955 almost simultaneously first engagement in theater and film.

Grizzard soon became one a popular stage actor, who was not only on Broadway, but also smaller houses, including in Minnesota, on the stage. His most famous play was Who 's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Which was between October 1962 and May 1964 664mal brought on Broadway for the performance in the Billy Rose Theatre. Between March and May 2001, he also embodied Judge Haywood in Judgment at Nuremberg. To Grizzards Awards included the 1957 Wold Theatre Award - for his performance in the play The Happiest Millionaire - and the Tony Award as Best Actor, he was allowed to take delivery in 1996 for his role in A Delicate Balance.

Grizzard was also in demand as a film and television actor. He stood up to the mid-1960s still predominantly as a guest performer in television series in front of the camera, now visibly followed film offers. One of his first successes was the film drama Advise and Consent in which Grizzard 1962 portrayed a fictional U.S. Senator. Private Grizzard lived withdrawn in Litchfield County in the U.S. state of Connecticut and held a nearly 40 -year-long homosexual relationship with William Tynan. He died in October 2007 at the age of 79 years to lung cancer.
