Surry County (Virginia)

Surry County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 6829 inhabitants and a population density of 9 people per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Surry. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

Surry County is located in Eastern Virginia and has an area of 804 square kilometers, of which 81 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: James City County, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County, Sussex County, Prince George County and Charles City County.

History

Made it was in 1652 from parts of James City County. It was named after the British county of Surrey.
