Stafford County (Virginia)

Stafford County is a county in the United States Virginia United States. In 2000, the County had 92 446 inhabitants and a population density of 132 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Stafford.

Geography

Stafford County is located in northeastern Virginia, on the east by Maryland, separated by the Potomac River and has an area of 725 square kilometers, of which 25 square kilometers are water surface. The southern border is the Rappahannock River. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Prince William County, Culpeper County, Spotsylvania County, Caroline County, King George County and Fauquier County.

History

Made it was in 1664 from parts of Westmoreland County. The County was named after the English town of Staffordshire. George Washington spent his childhood here, on the family estate on the Rappahannock River Ferry Farm, not far from Fredericksburg.
