Greensville County, Virginia
Greenville County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 11,560 inhabitants and a population density of 15 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Emporia.
Greenville County is located in southeastern New York, on the south by North Carolina and has an area of 769 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Sussex County, Southampton County, Brunswick County and Dinwiddie County.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Greenville County 11,560 people in 3,375 households and 2,396 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 38.94 percent White, 59.75 percent Black or African American, 0.10 percent Native American, 0.40 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.47 percent from other races groups; 0.32 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.93 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 375 households out of which 29.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 49.8 percent were married couples living together, 16.0 percent were single mothers, 29.0 percent were non-families, 25.4 percent of all households and 11.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.99.
Based on the county the population was spread from 18.2 percent population under 18 years, 7.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 38.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 11.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 160.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were statistically 177.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 32,002, and the median income for a family was $ 38,810. Males had a median income of $ 24,919, women $ 19,849. The per capita income was $ 14,632. 14.7 percent of the population and 12.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 17.0 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.6 percent of those 65 years.
