Orange County (Virginia)

Orange County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 25,881 inhabitants and a population density of 29 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is orange.

Geography

Orange County is located in north-central Virginia and has an area of 889 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Culpeper County, Spotsylvania County, Louisa County, Albemarle County, Greene County and Madison County.

History

Made it in 1734 from parts of Spotsylvania County. It was named after Prince William IV of Orange. In the American Civil War took place here in the battle of the Wilderness on 5 and 6 May 1864 instead.

President James Madison grew up here, and President Zachary Taylor was born here. Also, the film actor and film producer Randolph Scott came from the Orange County.
