Spotsylvania County, Virginia
Spotsylvania County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 90 395 inhabitants and a population density of 87 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Spotsylvania Courthouse.
Spotsylvania County is located in the central north east of Virginia and has an area of 1068 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Stafford County, Caroline County, Hanover County, Louisa County, Orange County and Culpeper County.
Made it was built in 1721 from parts of Essex County, King and Queen County and King William County. It was named after Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood. During the American Civil War, many battles were fought in this county, including the Battle of Fredericksburg on December 11 to 15, 1862, the Battle of Chancellorsville on 2 and 5 May, 1863, the Battle of the Wilderness on 5 - May 6, 1864 and the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House from 8 to May 21, 1864.
According to the census of 2000, there were 90 395 people in Spotsylvania County. Of these, 554 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 31,308 households and 24,639 families. The population density was 87 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 82.89 percent White, 12.45 percent Black or African American, 0.32 percent Native American, 1.38 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.04 percent from other races groups; 1.88 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.81 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 31,308 households out of which 42.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent were single mothers, 21.3 percent were non-families, 16.4 percent of all households and 5.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.22.
Based on the county the population was spread from 30.0 percent population under 18 years, 7.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 32.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 8.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.0 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 57,525, and the median income for a family was $ 62,422. Males have a median income of $ 40,909, women $ 27,910. The per capita income was $ 22,536. 3.4 percent of families and 4.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Among them were 6.2 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 4.8 percent of residents aged 65 years or older.
