Bland County, Virginia

Bland County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 6871 inhabitants and a population density of 7 people per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bland. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

Bland County is located in the central southwest Virginia, is bordered on the north by West Virginia and has an area of 929 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Giles County, Pulaski County, Wythe County, Smyth County and Tazewell County.

History

Made it in 1861 from parts of Giles County, Tazewell County and Wythe County and was named after Richard Blend, a statesman from Virginia, who was several times elected to the House of Burgesses and was from 1774 to 1775 Delegate to the Continental Congress.
